PanLogica recently was invited to present at the Smart Aquaculture Investment and Innovation Forum (SAIIF) 2017 in Seoul, Korea. Held annually SAIIF is a showcase of new equipment and technology for the Korean Aquaculture industry and a guest country, in this case, Australia.
At PanLogica, we use programming languages with type systems throughout our work, but we asked ourselves: could we take these ideas further in our software engineering practice?
Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms and Mathematical Optimisation, while these terms sound like they belong in a science fiction movie, in reality they are some of the different optimisation methodologies (‘the engines’) used to provide different ‘optimised’ solutions.
So for those of us without a background in mathematics, computer science or operational research what does this mean?
As it is standard practise for mathematicians to prepare a list of definitions for frequently used terms I've started a glossary of terms used in Optimisation.
